Biography
University of Toronto
As the principal of Ornstein Valuations, Mitchell specializes in providing valuation and forensic accounting services to a wide array of clients; primarily for litigation support, family law, shareholder disputes, succession planning, and other tax purposes. Mitchell has a unique ability to bring both calm and clarity to even the most difficult and complex circumstances. In the area of family law in particular, Mitchell often finds himself trusted by opposing counsel and is asked to act jointly for each side. In addition, Mitchell is also collaboratively trained; a family-focused process designed to reach out-of-court resolutions for separating couples.
Mitchell has contributed to publications and has been quoted in Investment Executive magazine. In addition he has lectured on the subject of valuations at a graduate level at DeGroot School of Business-McMaster University, and designed his own valuations course in partnership with the University of Toronto which was accredited by the CBV Institute. Mitchell has also taught financial accounting courses at both the University of Toronto and the Schulich School of Business-York University. He also sits as Chair of the Board of Collaborative Divorce Toronto and regularly volunteers through CPA Ontario to provide free income tax preparation services for low-income seniors.
Mitchell is an experienced expert witness having testified at arbitration and before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. He has also been entrusted by the same Court to act in the role of a Referee (an appointed independent professional who reports directly to the judge).
