Indian Institute of Management Lucknow

Dr. Moutusy Maity is currently a Professor in the department of Marketing Management, at the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L). Prior to joining IIM-L, Moutusy was an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-B), and at the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, WI, USA.

Moutusy’s research interests are in the areas of consumer interaction with information and communication technology (ICT) (e.g., e-commerce, m-commerce, social media, desktop/laptop environment, mobile device), and the adoption of ICT (e.g., technology adoption at the bottom of the pyramid (BOP) in developing countries).

Moutusy holds a masters degree in business administration (M.B.A.) from the University of Calcutta, Kolkata, INDIA, a masters degree in arts (MA) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, INDIA, and a doctoral degree in business administration (Ph.D.) from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA, USA.

Research

  • Moutusy’s research interests are in the areas of consumer interaction with technology (e.g., Internet/e-commerce, mobile/m-commerce), customer relationship management (CRM), and technology adoption at the bottom of the pyramid (BOP) in developing countries.
  • Her research has appeared in refereed journals including Journal of Retailing, Decision Support Systems, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Journal of Macromarketing, Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, Marketing Intelligence and Planning, and Journal of Marketing Channels, among others. Her research has won best paper/research awards across several international conferences (e.g., Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Conference, Marketing Management Association Conference).
  • Her book, co-authored with Dr. Pavankumar Gurazada, on Marketing Analytics (2021) has been published by the Oxford University Press. Her book on Internet Marketing: A Practical Approach in the Indian Context (2017) has also been published by the Oxford University Press.

Teaching

Moutusy offers courses and training programs on Digital Marketing / Online Marketing, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Social Media Analytics, Social Media Marketing, and Business Research Methods.

Education

Consulting

Moutusy’s recent consulting projects in the area of digital marketing have been undertaken for public sector companies like the Steel Authority of India (SAIL), and the Indian Oil Limited (IOL). She has also consulted for NGOs like LIRNEAsia (based out of Colombo, Sri Lanka), among others.

Moutusy has worked with The Nielsen Company, the leading market research firm on syndicated data services worldwide, in the firm’s retail (i.e., syndicated research) as well as consumer (i.e., customized research) divisions, handling clients including Pepsi Co., Frito Lay, and Eveready Batteries.

Moutusy is also a collaborating researcher at the Digital Innovation Lab at IIM-B, where her main focus is on digital marketing at the bottom of the pyramid. She is the principal investigator of a research study on the evaluation of a technology intervention in a supplemental nutritional programme amongst rural lactating mothers, and in another research study on delivery of financial literacy content to rural participants through mobile technology.

Awards & Honours

  • Moutusy has been invited to participate as Faculty Fellow at the 3rd and 5th AIM and AMA-Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium held at IMT Dubai and at We School, Mumbai.
  • Her research has won best paper/research awards across several international conferences (e.g., Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Conference, Marketing Management Association Conference).
  • She has also been invited to deliver keynote addresses in the area of leveraging the Internet for the purposes of marketing, at IIM Indore (Indore), at Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (Mumbai), and at the Social Media Summit 2017 (organized by the Government of Andhra Pradesh), among others.
