Nahyoung Lee

Dr. Lee is an ophthalmic plastic surgeon and a member of the Mass. Eye and Ear Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Service, as well as the Center for Thyroid Eye Disease and Orbital Surgery. Her areas of special interest include: orbit, eyelid, and tear drainage system dysfunctions, orbital tumors and inflammations, traumatic lacerations and fractures, and reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery.

After graduating from Johns Hopkins University with an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, Dr. Lee completed her medical training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. During medical school, she received numerous awards and scholarships, including the National Science Foundation Research Scholar award and the Harold Lamport Student Research Award. She then completed her ophthalmology residency at the Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California. Subsequently, she completed a fellowship in Ocular Pathology and Oncology at the Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health and Science University where she received specialized training in the treatment of ocular tumors.

Dr. Lee joined Mass. Eye and Ear as a Clinical Research Fellow in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, where in addition to her clinical subspecialty training, she engaged in innovative research on orbital angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis in thyroid eye disease, which she published as co-first author in the journal, Ophthalmology. During fellowship training, Dr. Lee received the competitive AUPO research award given to four residents or fellows in the country each year for her research in gene expression in non-specific orbital inflammation. She further honed her subspecialty and surgical training during a two-year Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at Mass. Eye and Ear and received the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship Award (most promising ophthalmologists) as well as the Fellow of the Year teaching award at Mass Eye and Ear. After completing fellowship, she received additional specialized training in Asian eyelid surgery in Seoul, Korea.

Dr. Lee is a reviewer for numerous journals including Ophthalmology, Survey of Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She is currently involved with the American Board of Ophthalmology as an oral board examiner. Her research interests include clinical trials for targeted therapy in thyroid eye disease, clinical research in ocular oncology, and developing a mouse model of orbital inflammation.
