Naomi Herman

Regional Learning & Development Manager, APAC at Clifford Chance / Adjunct Law Professor

Biography

I’m passionate about developing professionals to reach their full potential in demanding environments. I enjoy designing engaging courses, which leave a lasting impact on participants. Building consensus across multi-cultural organisations with various stakeholders is key to being able to roll-out powerful initiatives. COVID 19 has forever changed the way that people in organisations learn and collaborate. While it’s been challenging converting programs into a virtual format, it’s also forced me to be innovative and use technology to interact with and reach people. My path to learning and development was not a straight line but every stop on my journey contributed to who I am today: Forensic Accountant: Starting off my career in accounting gave me a solid foundation for business. I’m comfortable with numbers and spreadsheets and use data to make insights and informed decisions. Lawyer: After graduating from Harvard Law School, I worked as a litigator and U.S. Securities lawyer, which developed my critical thinking, negotiation and communication skills. Adjunct Professor: Teaching at SMU Law School, was one of the most rewarding positions I’ve held. I designed and delivered my curriculum from scratch, which has shaped the way I approach learning methods to achieve clearly defined learning objectives. Entrepreneur: Founding two businesses gave me a platform to take risks, self motivate, understand my client’s needs and sell my vision. Plain Language Trainer: I specialised in working with lawyers and business people on how to write and communicate more effectively, which profoundly transformed the way that I communicate and organise my thinking. Mom: My three children have taught me how to multi-task and focus on what’s important. They’re also living examples that everyone learns differently but can flourish if you build on their strengths.
