Biography

Nikki Graves is an Assistant Professor in the Practice of Management Communication at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. Graves, who has 15 years of college-level teaching experience and course development, teaches undergraduate and graduate classes that focus on writing, presentation skills, and corporate communication. Graves, in her advanced-level courses, teaches communications through experiential service learning. Emory’s Office of University-Community Partnerships has awarded Graves with teaching grants that allow students to provide communications consulting for non-profit organizations such as the GA Chapter of the Sierra Club, The Center for Working Families, The United Way, and Atlanta Housing Association of Neighborhood-Based Developers.

She founded and manages the Goizueta Presentation Coaching Program (GPCP), which offers assistance to members of the Goizueta community with academic and professional presentations, mock interviewing and case competition coaching. In 2008 she started a Goizueta student chapter of the professional organization “The International Association of Business Communicators,” for which she serves as the faculty advisor.

In addition to teaching, Graves offers communications and executive consulting. She has been certified in the Birkman Method, an industry-leading personality assessment that facilitates team building, executive coaching, leadership development, career management and interpersonal conflict resolution. She works with Emory’s Executive Education Program to provide executive coaching for participants of various programs. Within the Emory community, she has provided presentation training for Goizueta’s MBA, Evening MBA and Executive MBA programs, the Emory Medical School, the Office of Admissions for Emory’s College of Arts and Sciences, and Residence Life. Graves also provides communications training to clients external to Emory. Selected clients include Newell Rubbermaid, American Association of Occupational Nurses, Priviva, and Boston Consulting Group.

Graves holds an MA and Ph.D. in Women’s Studies from Emory University, and an MA and BA in English from Auburn University. She is an active member in the Association for Business Communication, the International Association for Business Communication, and Management Communication Association.
