Ole-Petter Hamnvik

Dr. Hamnvik went to medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin, Ireland. During medical school, he received numerous awards for academic excellence, including national awards reserved for the top three students in Ireland. He went on to complete internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Boston, MA. During his fellowship, he trained in clinical and translational research and obtain a Masters in Medical Science from Harvard Medical School. Since finishing his training, Dr. Hamnvik has remained at BWH as a clinician and educator. Clinically, Dr. Hamnvik treats patients with a variety of endocrine disorders. His area of interest is endocrine disorders in cancer patients; he is currently launching an innovative clinical program to provide tailored endocrine care to this patient group in conjunction with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Hamnvik is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a member of the Academy at Harvard Medical School, in recognition of his dedication to education. He spent one year as a Chief Medical Resident where he was responsible for teaching the Internal Medicine residents at BWH. He is currently an Associate Fellowship Program Director for the training program in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension at BWH. He actively directs educational programs, such as the Brigham Endocrinology Board Review Course, as well as the Diabetes Management Academy and a course on Effectively Communicating Research for a group of Latin-American physicians. He is invited to speak nationally and internationally on endocrine topics; examples include the keynote address at the annual meeting of the American Association of Cosmetic Surgery discussing testosterone therapy, and a week as an educational scholar at a Tokyo Medical and Dental University in Japan. He has published widely in reputable journals including in Cancer and in the New England Journal of Medicine.
