Biography

Sciences Po

Olivier Alexandre is a doctor from the School in Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS Paris). His Phd thesis, published in 2015 ( The rule of exception. The ecology of French cinema , Éditions de l'EHESS, 2015), deals with the French movie industry organization and the cultural exception model, focusing on the role and the importance of authorship.

Then, Olivier studied emblematic French festivals (the Cannes film festival, The Avignon theater festival, the Transmusicales) and digital transformations of cultural industries. Afterward, as postdoctoral researcher (Labex Icca), he worked on the independent sector in arts and culture, coediting a book with Sophie Noël and Aurélie Pinto covering its social, economic and historical aspects (Culture and independence, Peter Lang, 2017). Then, he explored the issues of critics activity and living conditions based on a Cahiers du cinema ethnographic study ( La sainte famille des Cahiers du cinema. La critique contre elle-soi , Vrin, 2018).
