Biography
SDA Bocconi School of Management
Paola Schwizer is an Affiliate Professor of Banking and Insurance at SDA Bocconi School of Management. She is a Full Professor of Financial Markets and Institutions at the Università di Parma, where she teaches Risk management and value creation in banks (in English) and E-Banking.
At SDA Bocconi, she has created and, at present, directs the education program “Board Practice”, a program aimed at encouraging the professional growth of executive and independent board members. She has conducted numerous eucation programs with some of the major Italian banks.
Her research activities focus on corporate governance, internal governance and risk governance. Currently, she is working on five key topics: sustainability and sutainable finance; financial regulation; risk culture in banks; corporate governance and internal control systems of financial and insurance firms; value creation in banks.
She is the author of several books and articles on her topics of interest. Her works have been published in the Journal of Banking and Finance, The European Journal of Finance, Bancaria and the International Journal of Regulation and Governance, among others. She has won numerous awards for her teaching and professional activities. She is a member of the Faculty of the Ph.D. Program in Economics and Management of Innovation and Sustainability at theuniversities of Parma and Ferrara, and deputy chair of the Graduate Program in Finance and Risk Management at the university of Parma. She has been President of Nedcommunity, the Italian Association of non-executive directors, and a board member of ecoDa, the European Confederation of Directors' Associations. She serves as a board member in financial and non-financial listed companies and she is a consultant for companies and institutions in corporate governance and financial management.
Paola earned a degree in Economics and Management from Università Bocconi and an ITP (International Teachers Programme) from Kellogs School of Management, Chicago. She is married with two daughters.
