Paul is professor of operations management in the School of Management. He is the module leader for sustainable supply chain management which is available to MSc students. He joined the University of Liverpool, School of Management in September 2019 from the University of Bristol. His working career began in the aerospace manufacturing industry (Westland Helicopters Limited, Sikorsky Aircraft, USA), then after completing his Ph.D. he worked in management consulting as a senior Manager (A.T. Kearney Limited). Subsequently he decided to follow an academic career, whilst maintaining strong links with practice, consulting and industry. He has worked nationally and internationally for the Universities of Bath (Lecturer, Senior Lecturer), Melbourne, Queen's Belfast (Professor), Manchester, Manchester Business School (Professor and Deputy Director and Research Director) and most recently for the University of Bristol as Head of School of Economics, Finance and Management. Having successfully restructured the school at Bristol into a new Management School he decided to continue to focus on his academic teaching and research at The University of Liverpool.

Paul's research focuses on three interrelated areas within supply chain management: Supply Strategy, Buyer-Supplier relationships and sustainable supply chain management. In summary, he has published in a variety of management journals including: British Journal of Management, Management Science, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Production and Operations Management and the International Journal of Operations and Production Management. He has also written several books including a major text book that is used internationally to teach supply chain management courses to under and post graduates. He is also on the Editorial Boards of several major international journals and regularly reviews for leading FT50 journals in the area. Paul continues to work closely with industry and public bodies advising on various aspects of supply chain management strategy.

Paul is currently interested in supervising empirically focussed, exceptional Ph.D. students in any of the areas mentioned above, he is particularly interested in students with a keen interest in any are of supply chain sustainability. He is currently working on a new book focussing on the link between consumption patters and sustainable supply chain management - working title 'Sustainable Consumption and Supply Systems'.
