Macquarie Graduate School of Management
Paul Kirkbride is Executive Director, Executive Education and Professor of Management at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM), Macquarie University where he manages the portfolio of both Open Enrolment and Customized Programs.
Prior to joining MGSM in 2012, Paul was Deputy Dean, Executive Education and Professorial Fellow at Melbourne Business School/Mt Eliza. During a 5-year tenure Paul increased revenues from $25M to an estimated $35M for 2012 whilst simultaneously raising the FT rankings from low 50s and 60s to #35 in 2011 and a clear #1 status in both Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
Previously Paul worked as a Managing Director based in the New York office of Duke CE. Prior to joining Duke Paul was Director, Value Based Leadership Development and Chief Learning Officer for ITT Industries, a US headquartered multi-industry multinational with over $8 billion in annual sales and 45,000 staff worldwide. In this role he was responsible for completely revamping ITT’s approach to leadership development which involved a new development model and philosophy, new leadership competencies, a new top management assessment and development process, a new succession planning process, and a new process for talent assessment and development
Paul has been, over the years, an HR professional, a researcher, an academic, a trainer, a consultant, and a businessman. From 1989 – 1991 he was British Aerospace Professor of Organizational Change and Development at British Aerospace (Commercial Aircraft) and the University of Hertfordshire. He was then a senior faculty member at Ashridge, one of Europe’s leading business schools. In addition he has successfully developed training and consultancy businesses in organizational change and leadership.
Paul has published over 60 journal articles, 15 book chapters and four books. His research work has been published internationally in journals such as Asia Pacific Human Resource Management, Industrial and Labor Relations Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, Journal of Industrial Relations, and Organization Studies. His most recent books both focused on Globalization (Globalization: The External Pressures and Globalization: The Internal Dynamic – Wiley 2001).
For the last 25 years Paul has worked globally with client organizations in the interstices of strategy, change and leadership. Past clients have included Cathay Pacific Airways, BAe, Hong Kong Government, Volkswagen, BASF, Beiersdorf, Scottish Power, and Volvo AB. His design and teaching interests include strategy implementation, organizational change, leadership development, developing organizational culture, the soft side of mergers and alliances, cross cultural management, and the development and delivery of action learning based and project based management development programs.
Paul gained a degree in Business Studies and a Masters in Personnel and Industrial Relations before completing his PhD at the Centre for Organizational Change and Development, University of Bath.
