Paul W. Nakazawa, AIA, is Associate Professor in Practice of Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Nakazawa works internationally as a consultant and adviser to private and public companies, institutions, and governments. His experience encompasses the fields of strategy and leadership development; finance and investments; operations management; organizational structure and development; governance; marketing and business development; large-scale project acquisition and mobilization; development and negotiation of complex agreements; mergers and acquisitions; new enterprises/entrepreneurship; and international design practice.
Nakazawa previously served as a managing principal for multi-disciplinary design practices in New York, Chicago, Boston, and Charlotte. He was a founding member of AMO, the research and development arm of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture. He currently serves as the Chairman of Snohetta’s Advisory Board, New York, and a director of MASS Design Group, Boston.
Nakazawa’s research interests include the study of the spatial and programmatic development of economic clusters in large metropolitan areas; and the complex relationships between the formal and informal sectors of society with respect to the occupation and evolution of the city.
He has taught and lectured at the GSD, Southern California Institute of Architecture (Los Angeles), Architectural Association (London), Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City), and University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Nakazawa received his BA and MBA degrees from the University of Chicago, and Master in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
