Paul Palmer

I have extensive knowledge of charity financial, management and Governance issues. I was a member of the Charity Commission SORP committee from 2000-2005. I act as an independent consultant on Charities to UBS Wealth Management, and an independent expert on charity dispute issues for courts and arbitration. I have made Television and radio appearances on charity issues and work as a writer on 'practitioner' how to do books on charity finance and websites.

My work also extends into the area of Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility having co-authored a book on Socially Responsible Investment and completed a research project on Responsible Lending. I currently serve on the ethics panel of the Securities Investment Institute and the Corporate Responsibility Advisory Group of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).In 2008 I successfully lead a BAM consortium bid for an ESRC seminar series on CSR. In 2010/11 I project managed the Lord Mayor of London’s Integrity and Values Initiative and am continuing strands of this work with the ongoing City Values Forum.

I have been a Past President of the Royal Society of Public Health and a Director of the NCVO Trading Company.I was Hon Treasurer of the CSR SIG of BAM from 2006-2009. In 2009 I was asked to serve on the Expert Panel of the Ethical Investment Research Services (EIRIS) Charity Project. I was a Commissioner on the Commission on Ageing. My current voluntary work includes being a Founder Trustee of the Hon Treasurers Forum, the Chair of the Grant Making Committee of the Hospital Saturday Fund and Vice President of the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council.

Research

I have completed two ESRC funded KTP projects and currently from the first project have a publication in final referee stage for publication. Durring 2011 I project managed the Lord Mayor's initiative on Restoring Trust in the City of London including undertaking the first ever survey of City Voters attitudes. Two papers are in preparation for submission to a 3 and 4 star journal on this work. Once completed I will then turn to the work completed in summer 2012 on governance in the charity sector following a survey of the top 500 hundred charities and my work with a successful PhD completion.
