Biography:

Paul SANDERS is an historian and a leadership scholar. He studied under Wolfgang Scheffler in Berlin, and later earned a Doctorate in History at the University of Cambridge. In 2004 Jersey Heritage commissioned him to write a new official history of the occupation, entitled "The British Channel Islands under German Occupation 1940–1945" (2005). His other monographs are "The Ultimate Sacrifice" (1998), an account of the experiences of Channel Islanders in prisons and concentration camps, "Histoire du Marché Noir 1940–1946" (2001), and "Protest, Defiance and Resistance in the Channel Islands - German Occupation 1940-1945" (co-published with Gilly Carr and Louise Willmot, 2014). Professionally, Paul has served as deputy director of the Central Registry of Information on Looted Cultural Property 1933-1945. In 2008 he was elected to the fellowship of the Royal Historical Society (London), and in 2010 he advised the Prime Minister in conjunction with the British Heroes of the Holocaust award. In 2006, he joined ESC Dijon-Bourgogne, and since 2012 he is Associate Professor at NEOMA Business School (Reims, France), where he is pioneering historical perspectives in the teaching of Leadership and Ethics. His most recent publication is "The ‘strange Mr Kastner‘ – Leadership ethics in Holocaust-era Hungary, in the light of grey zones and dirty hands", in the journal Leadership (SAGE).
