Background
Pelin Pekgun is an assistant professor of management science in the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. She was formerly a visiting assistant professor in the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology.
Prior to starting her academic career, Pekgun served as the manager of Analytical Services for JDA Software’s Pricing and Revenue Management Group, leading the operations research team in North America, where she was responsible to provide analytical supervision on all aspects of implementation projects and was in charge of the design for analytical functions in various products. During her six years of tenure at JDA, she worked in a variety of projects including markdown pricing for retail and forecasting and price optimization for hospitality, passenger travel, golf, luxury yacht rental and other leisure industries. Her work with the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group on stay night price optimization became a finalist for the 2012 INFORMS Franz Edelman Award and the 2013 INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section Practice Award.
Pekgun was awarded an honorable mention for the INFORMS George B. Dantzig Dissertation Award in 2008 and won the IIE Transactions Best Paper Award in Scheduling and Logistics with co-authors Pinar Keskinocak and Paul M. Griffin in 2009. She is currently serving as the topical editor for Applications with Societal Impact for the Wiley Encyclopedia of Operations Research and Management Science. Pekgun is actively involved in INFORMS and POMS societies, serving in committees and organizing conference sessions, clusters and tracks. She has been serving as a member of the INFORMS Franz Edelman Award committee since 2012 and as a finalist coach since 2014. She served as the chair of the INFORMS Professional Recognition Committee from 2012 to 2014.
Research
Pekgun’s research interests include applications of management science and operations research in pricing and revenue management, supply chain management, behavioral operations management, marketing/operations interface, and health and humanitarian logistics.
