Peter Cariani

Dr. Cariani's auditory research involves temporal codes and neurocomputations that may subserve perception of musical pitch, consonance, harmony, timbre, and rhythm. He has proposed time-domain neural timing net architectures for representing, comparing, and separating sounds on the basis of their time structure. He is currently developing a general theory of brain function based on multiplexed temporal pattern pulse codes.

Since 1993 he has taught courses related to music and the auditory system at Tufts, Harvard College (MBB), HST-MIT (SHBT), Boston Conservatory, and Berklee College of Music. An SHBT graduate seminar in music perception and cognition is typically offered every other year.
