Prof. Wong is a Specialist in Cardiology. He obtained his MBBS from the National University of Singapore in 1989. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Academy of Medicine Singapore, and the American College of Cardiology. A/Prof Wong received advanced specialist training in Cardiology at the National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS). He has seen over 40,000 outpatient consults and performed more than 5,000 coronary procedures in his 26-year tenure at NHCS. He underwent subspecialty training in Interventional Cardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA. He has trained numerous fellows in Interventional Cardiology and is currently Associate Professor, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. He was previously Adjunct Professor, School of Materials Science, Nanyang Technology University Singapore.

Prof. Wong has strong interest in research, clinical innovation and entrepreneurship. He was instrumental in building NHCS’ first basic research laboratory in 2005 as well as planning the current research laboratories in the National Heart Research Institute of Singapore in 2014. He has been Principal Investigator in multiple interventional cardiology trials and has above 65 peer review publications in the fields of cellular therapy, medical devices and clinical trials. He holds more than 10 patents in the fields of experimental cell therapy/medical devices and has foundered 2 medical start-ups in Singapore.

Prof. Wong’s area of clinical expertise includes general cardiology, cardiac catheterization and percutaneous coronary intervention. He is experienced in intravascular ultrasound, fractional flow reserves, complex coronary interventions, chronic total occlusions, ocular coherence tomography and rotablation. He is also well versed in non-invasive tests such as echocardiography, ambulatory ECG, ambulatory blood pressure and treadmill stress tests. He has special interest in tele- and digital-medicine, mobile and ambulatory home monitoring and the use of artificial intelligence in clinical practice.
