Biography

Dr Hessel is a quantitative social scientist researching the social determinants of health from a life-course perspective, with a spcial interest in the relation between social policies and health.

He received his PhD in Demography from the London School of Economics and was a David Bell post-doctoral fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Before joining the Swiss TPH as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow he was Associate Professor at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.
