Biography
David Eccles School of Business
Rachael is currently a Ph.D. Student in the Department of Management studying organizational behavior interests which include: negotiations, power, gender, and ethics. More specifically, Rachael became interested in academic research while facilitating the ethical advocacy of women in leadership. While attending a Federal government meeting in Ethiopia in 2007, Rachael quickly realized she was one of two women present in a sea of 200+ people supposedly representing all of the Ethiopian people at the Federal level. From this experience, several other questions have followed: Why are less women empowered to lead at the top levels of organizations and governments? How do women in power negotiate differently than men? How and when do women create unique value in workplace groups? Rachael taught graduate students while also advising non-profit boards in the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University. Rachael also served as a Court Roster Certified Mediator for the State of Utah, receiving her mediation training from J Reuben Clark Law School at BYU, where she also earned an MPA. Rachael pursued a career in the performing arts industry in New York City. Rachael has served on the Board of Directors for Phi Kappa Phi and The Grantwell Program. In 2007, Rachael was invited to present her thesis at the Honors Western Regional Conference in Washington, which utilized her experience with humanitarian non-governmental organizations in Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Bolivia, Peru, and Mexico.
