Rachel Somerstein is an assistant professor of journalism at SUNY New Paltz, where she teaches classes in journalism studies and the craft of journalism. She’s written for the Washington Post, Guernica: A Magazine of Global Art & Politics, and WIRED, among many other publications. She is working on a book about the obstacles photographers face when they report with their cameras, and how the pictures that don't get taken shape policy and public discourse.
