Mr. Muller is CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, one of the leading health systems in the U.S., consistently recognized for its superior patient care and as a best employer. He was, from 1985 to 2001, the President of the University of Chicago Hospitals and Health System. He is a Director on the Boards of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), the National Opinion Research Center (NORC), Vizient and ECRI. He served as Commissioner on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), Commissioner on the Joint Commission (TJC), Chairman of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Chairman of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH), Chairman of the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) and Chairman of the University Healthsystem Consortium (UHC). He is member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Mr. Muller received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in government from Harvard University.
