  • Worked globally with bilateral and multilateral organizations and also served on several government committees on health care financing, public-private partnerships and health policy of Planning Commission and Ministry for Health and Family Welfare.
  • Worked as Professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad since 1986-2009 and 2014-2016 . Held the position of Dean at the School of Business Management, NMIMS University, Mumbai one of the premier private universities in India offering management education. Prior to joining IIM Ahmedabad, worked as Assistant Director at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi and was faculty member at Shri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi. Held Adjunct Professor position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to teach in programme conducted in collaboration with IIHMR Jaipur. Worked as full-time Consultant and Adviser to the Department for International Development, India, and the Royal Netherlands Embassy, New Delhi. Was conferred the best teacher in management award by Deccan Herald in 2008.
  • Third edition of Cases in Financial Management has been published in 2012 by McGraw Hill Education India (co-authored with I.M. Pandey).
  • International consulting assignments include work on health sector development in Vietnam, Ghana and South Africa. Lead the IIM Ahmedabad faculty team to offer management development programmes in Egypt during 2005-07
  • Has been on the editorial boards of Health Policy and Planning, Journal of Insurance and Risk Management, Journal of Health and Population in Developing Countries, Journal of Health Management.
  • In 2009 took up a full-time position as an executive chairman of WOne Management. During last five years we worked with government, non-government and private sector organization in India and abroad. After working for five years where I was engaged with leading professionals from national and international organizations working on health finance and health systems, joined back IIM Ahmedabad.
  • Lead Member Finance of Core Design Team for National Aids Control Programme (NACP IV) Plan Preparation 2012-17 of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Government of India. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on 3 October 2013 approved Rs 8632.77 crore for implementation of the National AIDS Control Programme Phase IV by the health ministry's department for AIDS Control.
  • As part of this work participated in development of a mathematical model for “Survival of people living with HIV/AIDS and requirement for 1st- and 2nd-line ART” which was published in Notices American Mathematical Society. Also worked as core team member to develop NACP III programme implementation plan.
  • Recently developed a dynamic model to assess the impact of wastages on vaccine delivery and supply chain in India. The model was used for impact assessment of vaccine wastages and simulating various scenarios of changes in variables affecting the vaccine delivery in India. The changes considered were those initiated through policy changes, introduction of new technology or process improvements.
  • Lead author of a monograph on Public-private Partnerships in Health Sector published by the World Health Organisation, Geneva in 2007.
  • My work with the Government (both at the Centre and the State level) involved working on several committees and task force focusing on financial assessment, system development and sector reform issues, policy formulation, institutional issues and developing implementation strategies.
