Biography
Management School ESSCA
Raphaël Fournier is a legal historian, a graduate of Sciences-Po Paris (2003) and a doctor of the University of Paris-II Panthéon-Assas (2015).
His early work focused on intellectual constructions motivated by opposition to the full expression of the principle of sovereignty in France after the revolutionary turn. He then devoted his doctoral thesis to the prehistory of this question in the Ancien Régime: From hierarchy to sovereignty. Ranks, precedence and constitution of the kingdom of Louis XIII at the Regency.
His work focuses mainly on the history of legal thought. More specifically, he is interested in the links it maintains with the systems of authority in progress in the various disciplines of the mind and the intellectual currents emerging at the time, such as historicism and rationalism.
He mainly teaches legal methodology, legal history (in Paris-1 and Paris-II) as well as argumentation techniques and instruments for analysing power and authority as part of ESSCA’s Grande Ecole programme.
He is currently preparing a book at the crossroads of cultural history, film studies and law on the legal and political culture of the classical western.
