Vice Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Tenured Assistant Professor at Universitat de les Illes Balears

Biography

Monclova, Mexico. Assistant Professor (tenured) at the University of the Balearic Islands. She earned her bachelor degree in Civil Engineering (1992) from ITESM. She has an MSc. in Industrial Organization (2002) and a PhD. in Business Administration and Quantitative Methods (2008) from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) under the supervision of Clara E. García and Marco Giarratana. Her extensive background includes STEM, managerial, educational and technical training. In the STEM area, she has a Diploma on Light, Heat and Sound and Glass Properties at ITESM in 1993 and on Engineering for Extreme Winds at Texas Tech in 1994. In the Management area, she has studied Managing Human Resources for Innovation (MIT, 1998), Science and Technology Analysis and Management (UC3M, 2001), Energy Markets (UC3M, 2002), and Antitrust Policy (UC3M, 2002). In the educational area, she earns a Diploma on Developing Training Programs from ITESM (1993). In the Technical area, she has studied Social Network Analysis (U Kentucky, 2012) and Panel Data Analysis (Kauffman Foundation, 2012).

She worked for Grupo Vitro from 1993 to 2000, as Technical Consultant (Flat Glass Division, 1993-1997) and as Innovation Projects Junior Manager (Corporate Headquarters, 1997-2000), where one of her main achievements was the setup, and coordination of the Group's Innovation Projects Portfolio. Rebeca has also served as vice-head of the Fernando de los Ríos Student Housing (2007-2008). Her teaching experience ranges from Strategic Management to Financial Analysis, both at Bachelor and Master levels, at UC3M and since 2008 at UIB. Besides, she has been PI at one project on Innovation in Teaching. She also served as an advisor for the Mexican chapter of the US Energy Efficiency Standards and at the OECD.

As a researcher, her main interests are social networks, innovation, organizational behavior, and open source software and biopharmaceutical industries. She has published in the Journal of Evolutionary Economics, and the Information and Management Journal, plus several book chapters. She visited Rotman School of Management (Canada, 2006) as visiting Ph.D. student and Yale School of Management (USA, 2012) as visiting Post-Doc, with fellowships from the UC3M and the Ministry of Education, respectively. Her current research spans networks in the Pharmaceutical Industry and the management of clinical trials.
