Remco Peters, MD, PhD, is an HIV/STI clinician, epidemiologist, and researcher with 15 years of experience in public healthcare settings and PEPFAR-funded programmes across sub-Saharan Africa. He is currently Head of Research at the Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) in East London, South Africa, and affiliated with the medical microbiology departments at the University of Pretoria and University of Cape Town.
Prof Peters leads the rural FPD-DTHF Ndevana Community Research Site where several HIV prevention trials are conducted. His research portfolio further includes studies aimed at optimising ART adherence in key populations, implementation of rapid diagnostic testing for STIs, and antimicrobial resistant gonorrhoea. He is a member of several national and international technical working groups, including at the WHO, and actively supports the Southern African HIV Clinicians Society.
