Reza Askari

Biography
Harvard Medical School
Dr. Askari is the associate trauma director in the Division of Trauma, Burn and Surgical Critical Care and Emergency General Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is also the acute care surgery and surgical critical care fellowship director for the division.
Prior to the Brigham, Dr. Askari was a surgical hospitalist at Sibley Memorial Hospital and a surgical house officer at INOVA Fairfax Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital. He received his bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery internship and residency from the George Washington University Medical Center, where he was the chief resident. He completed his research fellowship in trauma and critical care at INOVA Fairfax Trauma Center. He completed his trauma and critical care fellowship at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
Dr. Askari’s clinical research focuses on surgical infections and identifying novel areas for improvement in the infection control process. He currently serves as the principle investigator on several ongoing research studies, including one NIH-funded multi-center study investigating antibiotic administration and intra-abdominal infections. He is also collaborating on research focused on immunologic phenotyping of severe trauma patients. Dr. Askari also actively works with community partners and our Violence Intervention and Prevention Program for trauma outreach into the local community.
