Prior to joining McGill in July 1997, Richard Donovan worked at a top Canadian life insurance company for 8 years, where he held positions such as Systems Consultant, Senior Training and Development Consultant, and as a Production Manager supervising a staff of eighteen. Since his arrival at McGill, he has won outstanding teaching awards and student life awards on seventeen (17) occasions including being listed in MacLean’s Guide to Canadian Universities (2006 ed.) as one of two Popular Professors in McGill Management as well as winning the Desautels Faculty of Management’s Distinguished Teaching Award for the 2007-2008 academic year.
In March 2006, he co-authored the 3rd Canadian Edition of Information Systems for the Information Age by McGraw-Hill after co-authoring the 2nd edition in February 2003.
As Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Program from January 2001 to December 2004, Richard oversaw its’ growth from 1700 to 2400 students. He has since returned to be the Academic Director of the program overseeing its’ daily operations from September 2013 to October 2014.
He continues to design and teach courses at both the undergrad and graduate levels in the I.S. and Strategy areas including “Case Analysis and Presentation”, “Introduction to I.S.”, as well as more advanced I.S. courses. He also teaches and consults for the Program for International Competitiveness where he has facilitated workshops in countries like Abu Dhabi, Indonesia, Ukraine, and Italy, McGill’s MBA / Japan program as well as at McGill’s International Executive Institute.
Richard specializes in Making Persuasive & Convincing Business Recommendations, Instructional Design, Cost/Benefit Analysis of IT projects and the integration of IT into organizations.
