Biography
Wisconsin School of Business
I worked for twenty years in insurance and publishing as a computer specialist, information technology manager, assistant vice president of operations, member of a strategic management team, and business manager. I have also worked for several clients as a management consultant. Since 2007, I have taught a variety of courses in management and human resources, including organizational improvement, organizational behavior, staffing, teams, ethics, and strategic management.
In my non-teaching career, I managed and re-structured departments, oversaw software development, analyzed and revised work processes, designed performance management methods, led teams, facilitated planning processes, reported and interpreted financial results, designed and implemented an internal economy, estimated the value of businesses, coached managers and project managers, designed and implemented a management reporting system, interpreted personality profiles, mediated conflict between employees, helped management team members develop more trust in each other, conducted 360° performance reviews, negotiated software contracts and licenses, and advised a board of directors on severe operational problems.
I have given talks to organizations and trade conferences on performance management and the language of business. I have led workshops on ethics and contributed a case study to a textbook on ethics. I have published two books: one of poems and stories and one on the language heard in business offices. I was a part-time professional photographer for several years until recently. I have a B.A. from Carleton College, an M.A. from Princeton University, and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
