Wagner Graduate School of Public Service
Rona Affoumado has more than 50 years of experience in health care planning, administration and program development. Today, Ms. Affoumado is an independent consultant specializing in strategic planning, organizational development, capacity building, evaluation of program services, management coaching and primary care transformation. In addition, she has been actively engaged in the implementation of several elements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Notably, patient-centered medical home (PCMH), Medicaid Health Home, Hospital-Medical Home (H-MH) and the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) Program. Ms. Affoumado also has a long association with Federally-Qualified Health Centers and, as a consultant, has assisted New York State licensed Article 28 clinics to become a FQHC or FQHC-LA.
After completing her MUP degree with a specialization in health and social planning and health policy, she served eight years as the Executive Director of Community Health Project in New York City (now called: Callen-Lorde Community Health Center) where she established its innovative HIV/AIDS Primary Care Program in association with NYC Health+Hospitals. Subsequently, Ms. Affoumado served as Associate Executive Director for Community Healthcare Network. She has also served on the Board of Directors of the Primary Care Development Corporation, and started several community-based organizations, most notably Iris House and the New York AIDS Coalition. She is also a recipient of the Robert F. Wagner Distinguished Teacher Award. Currently, in addition to her consulting projects, she is working on a documentary about the early years of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
