Dr. Rudiyanto Gunawan is an internationally recognized expert in computational systems biology and bioinformatics. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003. After a postdoctoral appointment at the University of California Santa Barbara (2003-2006), he has been leading the Chemical and Biological Systems Engineering Laboratory (CABSEL); formerly at the National University of Singapore (2006-2011) and currently at ETH Zurich (2011-2018). Dr. Gunawan is joining University at Buffalo as an Associate Professor in August 2018. His research revolves around the creation of sophisticated computational methods for the extraction of mechanistic and actionable insights from biological data. Current research projects in his laboratory focus on network-based analysis of cellular and bioprocess data with specific applications in therapeutic monoclonal antibody biomanufacturing, stem cell differentiation, and human aging. Dr. Gunawan is a recipient of best paper awards from the Journal of Process Control and Computers and Chemical Engineering Journal in 2008.
