Biography
Stanford Continuing Studies
My passion is for understanding how people can lead more vibrant and purposeful lives. I've studied with many leaders in the field of human development, including Howard Gardener, the creator of the theory of multiple intelligences, William Damon, the leading thinker in moral development and career commitment, and John Krumboltz, the creator of the happenstance learning theory. My doctoral thesis at Stanford explored how people embody their spirituality within their careers and daily lives.
I have been practicing Buddhism for the last 25 years and have studied with a number of teachers including, Tenzin Wangyal, Lama Surya Das, and Steven Tainer. I spend part of each year on retreat.
I am presently leading a Stanford research project that examines the work practices of masters in diverse fields—beer making, journalism, social entrepreneurship, engineering, long-distance running, mathematics, etc.
I'm also an adjunct professor in the Contemplative Psychology program at Naropa University; I teach an experiential class on dream psychology.
