Summary:
Ryan Weldzius is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Villanova University. His research lies at the intersection of international and comparative political economy, focusing on the distributional consequences of economic integration and the constraints that deeper integration places on the policies of states. His areas of focus are global supply chain trade, currency politics, and European integration. In his book project, The Chains That Bind: Economic Interdependence and Currency Conflict, Dr. Weldzius argues that the transformations in trade and production networks since the 1990s have altered how, and if, currency conflicts arise. The book provides a political explanation for the recent disappearance of currency manipulation as a strategy for export-led growth, and suggests a return to currency conflict if advanced economies re-shore supply chains in response to the global pandemic.
