Overview
As Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology, I am actively involved in research and training of Clinical Psychologists. My research is centred around examining psychological processes involved in the development and maintenance of psychosis and developing interventions for psychosis. My recent programme of research has focused on evaluating innovative methods to facilitate access to, and delivery of, interventions for severe mental health problems. My teaching role is focused on the Doctoral Clinical Psychology Training programme (ClinPsyD) at Manchester. I teach a number of modules on the ClinPsyD programme and am actively involved in supervising research student projects at the Undergraduate, Masters, ClinPsyD and PhD levels. In addition to research and teaching, I am the Division of Psychology and Mental Health Lead for Social Responsibility (a key University strategy) and Deputy Admissions Director for the ClinPsyD programme. I also sit on a number of committee panels related to the running of the Clinical Psychology training programme. Alongside my University role, I am an Honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist with Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust where I am involved in supervising and training NHS clinicians. Finally, I am a Director of Affigo, CIC, a not-for-profit social enterprise company spun out of The University of Manchester in December, 2015.
Biography
I completed my psychology training in Australia. After starting out in a reseach assistant post working in the area of psychosis and substance misuse, I completed my clinical training (2006) and worked as a full-time practicing Clinical Psychologist at an Early Intervention for psychosis service in Newcastle, Australia. I moved to Manchester, UK in 2007 and held a research fellow post in Clinical Psychology with Professor Tarrier before being appointed Lecturer in Clinical Psychology in 2008. Alongside my academic role I continued to work clinically as a trial therapist on the MRC-funded COMMAND trial. After a period of maternity leave, I secured MRC funding to develop a programme of research around innvoative methods for treatemnt delivery in psychosis and collaborate with a number of other research groups across Divisions to facilitate this work. I was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2014 and have an active programme of research and teaching duties. In addition, I am the Social Responsibility Lead for the Division of Psychology and Mental Health and lead on the ATHENA SWAN charter for the Division. My social responsibility activities extend to setting up a Community Interest Company with colleagues at Manchester aimed at making mobile health solutions to self-management in mental health to the NHS and public sector more widely available.
