Anaplan Senior Design Operations Manager Jan 2020 – London, United Kingdom I support a UX team located in the UK and US of visual designers, systems designers, UX designers, content design and of course researchers (22 people in total) as an ops team of one. Working closely with the UX team leads, I identify operational blockers and implement key initiatives to help the team respond to growth and change in the business.

This included setting up and improving processes and workflows, and developing clear protocols, guidelines and templates for everything from participant recruitment to asset management. I also supported the head of research with planning, prioritisation, communication and alignment across the business.

DesignOps Videoconference: Research Ops impact Senior Project Manager Jan 2017 – Apr 2018 London, United Kingdom As lead project manager in the global marketing department, I managed marketing and brand projects across all areas of the business. This included scoping new projects, maintaining clear communication between the project team and the business in a fast-paced environment, and managing the project team to ensure the projects were delivered to standard and within the agreed scope. One of my top achievements in this role was setting up and maintaining a set of PM tools and best practices that reflected the industry guidelines but were adapted to a highly agile, fast-growth business.

August Media Chief sub editor Jan 2014 – Jul 2015 London, United Kingdom I worked on live, the IKEA club members’ magazine, which was published in 30 countries and 32 languages in quarterly print and monthly online editions. As well as the usual sub-editing work (correcting language use, fact-checking, editing content to the layout format, rewriting copy in the magazine's tone of voice, and signing off final proofs), I was also responsible for the translation process of eight countries' magazines, online and print, and for managing the monthly localised content featured in all 30 editions' online magazines (this included coordinating the writing, sub-editing, translation and CMS formatting process of these pages). I loved the process of establishing good working relationships with teams all over the world to ensure we met all our deadlines.

Sub editor: live for IKEA FAMILY Dec 2011 – Dec 2013 London, UK Responsible for managing the translation process of 12 editions of the IKEA club members’ magazine as part of a four-person team. This included proofreading 12 editions’ translated pages – checking visual style, language consistency, pagination, product credits and so forth – and ensuring country-specific copy or product credit changes were made accurately. I also assisted the chief sub editor in checking final print proofs. I really enjoyed working closely as part of a team of sub editors on such a large global magazine.

Associated Hearst Sub editor: O, The Oprah Magazine Apr 2009 – Oct 2011 Cape Town, South Africa I was responsible for sub-editing all pages in O, The Oprah Magazine South Africa, the only international edition of the American O, The Oprah Magazine. This included strict adherence to brand guidelines and managing the approval process with the US magazine. I helped to improve production efficiency by setting up a series of check lists and templates to track approvals, changes and production progress. I acted as chief sub editor from April 2011 to end October 2011, during which time I was responsible for signing off final proofs, checking pagination, and training and managing the sub editor.

Professional Vision Group Project manager and consultant Jan 2007 – Mar 2009 Cape Town, South Africa My main responsibility in this was role was to manage the development of National Qualification Framework-aligned training programmes for major clients in the food preparation industry. This included scoping client briefs on the course content required, briefing and managing a team of freelance writers and graphic designers to ensure the content met the relevant quality and approval criteria. Once approved by the client, I was also responsible for registering the programmes with the relevant Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA). I am proud of the fact that I helped the team transition to working in InDesign and that the programmes helped our client set up and accredit a training academy.
