Biography

Dr. Seth Freedman specializes in health economics and health policy with his research primarily focusing on the causes and effects of technology diffusion and utilization in health care. He joined the IU faculty in 2013. Currently, Freedman is exploring how factors such as past public health insurance expansions, payment system changes, and hospital system ownership impact hospital technology adoption decisions. He plans to continue to pursue these interests in the context of recent health reform and its impact on the healthcare delivery system.

Freedman also examines how electronic medical records impact provider behavior, patient care, and health outcomes. He has explored how consumers respond to product recalls and the effects of information asymmetries in online peer-to-peer lending markets.

In his dissertation, funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Freedman studied the effects of the diffusion of neonatal intensive care units on infant treatment and health outcomes.
