Weatherhead School of Management
Sharon L. Martin, MBA, CPA, brings a wide range of experience directing learning systems and knowledge development in the corporate sector. Her work unites an appreciation of learning for professional and personal growth with the quantitative finesse to reveal its impact on the bottom line. Sharon received the 2018 Outstanding Undergraduate Faculty Advocate award and had been nominated for the same in the prior year. Martin has also been nominated for outstanding faculty member by Gamma Sigma Alpha and nominated for the WSOM Undergraduate Teaching Award multiple times.
A graduate of John Carroll University, Martin is also a CPA. She obtained her Executive MBA from Baldwin Wallace University and gained Certificates in Women’s Leadership and Executive Coaching from Case Western Reserve as well. During an extensive 24 year career at Ernst & Young, Martin first provided audit services to clients as a staff through senior manager. Later, as a principal in the Global Assurance Advisory Business Services (AABS) group, Martin was in charge of the Americas Knowledge Network and built a knowledge management framework supported by coaching and teamwork that improved audit quality and employee morale. She wrote and designed materials for the classroom and the web. She also overhauled the core audit curriculum in light of changing regulations and to align to the adoption of a firm wide competency framework. As part of the Americas Quality and Risk Management team, Martin designed and developed a multi-year technical independence learning curriculum implemented throughout Ernst & Young’s offices globally. As Global Director of AABS Technology Implementation, she managed the implementation of technology solutions in five global geographical areas, shaping their activities for maximum ROI. She also returned to EY in 2015-2016 to assist the West Region’s Assurance Enablement and Implementation group. In that role, she coordinated pre-issuance quality reviews, quality network newsletters and webcasts, and the project management milestone program for the audit practice.
Among her many outside activities, Martin is heavily involved in her church and served as the chair of their strategic planning committee. She currently serves as the secretary and finance committee member of the non-profit Building Hope in the City, having previously served as treasurer and chair of the finance committee. Martin also presides over the Florence Crittenton Services Fund of the Cleveland Foundation. In the past, she has been a board member of The Cleveland Pops Orchestra, past president of the Cleveland East chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants, and treasurer and board member of the area chapter of the League of Women Voters during which she was on the Northeast Ohio Area-wide Coordinating Agency (NOACA) Air Quality Public Advisory Task Force.
Martin is a seasoned traveler both domestically and internationally, and most enjoys traveling with her family and spending time with her grandson. When her schedule allows, she can be found relaxing with a walk in the park, enjoying high tea, or fitting together a jigsaw puzzle. She is also an avid NPR listener and theater aficionado."
