Sidney Nakao Nakahodo is a Lecturer at Columbia University where he specializes in Political, Social, and Economic Development in Brazil. In parallel to his academic responsibilities he is currently involved in a number of technology startups, both as co-founder and advisor.
Previously he was based in Washington DC and worked in private sector development and low carbon projects at the World Bank. Prior to joining the Bank he served as senior researcher for a major think tank in Brazil and consulted for the United Nations Development Programme. He started his career in the private sector providing technical assistance for manufacturing companies in South America.
Sidney holds a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University''s School of International and Public Affairs and a Bachelor of Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). He is also a graduate of the Advanced Studies Program in International Economic Policy at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (Germany). In 2015, he received a Google scholarship to attend Singularity University at NASA Ames Research Center, in Silicon Valley.
An enthusiast of youth empowerment, he mentors students and young professionals and co-edited a book aimed at inspiring them. He is a volunteer swimming coach and speaks English, Portuguese, Spanish, French and Italian.
