Biography
I worked as a professional translator for the Department of Immigration in Australia before undertaking a PhD and becoming a Lecturer at the University of Manchester. I am currently joint programme director of the Masters in Intercultural Communication.
Academic Qualifications:
PhD (2001), University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. Title of thesis: An Investigation of Methodological Issues in Descriptive Translation Research Drawing on a Case Study of the English Translations of Texts by Jean-Francois Lyotard.
Master''s Qualifying (1993), University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. Thesis on government service translation with particular reference to French-English translation.
Graduate Diploma of Arts in French Translation (1992), Edith Cowan University, Western Australia.
Bachelor of Arts in languages (French, English, German) (1981), University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

Teaching Areas
I teach on course units in the the Masters in Intercultural Communication, and the Masters in Translation & Interpreting Studies. My specialist teaching areas are Memory, Mediation and Intercultural Relations, and Translating for International Organizations. I teach practical classes in French to English translation.
Supervision
I supervise dissertations for the Masters in Intercultural Communication, and am currently first supervisor for two PhD students.
