Alliance Manchester Business School
Dr Stefan Zagelmeyer is Reader in Comparative and International Business at Manchester Business School, U.K.. He is currently Head of the Comparative and International Business Group.
Dr Zagelmeyer has spent 15 years in academic research and higher education. He has held appointments at Manchester School of Management (lecturer, UMIST, Manchester, UK, 2002-2004), Manchester Business School (honorary senior lecturer, The University of Manchester, UK, 2013-2014), Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas (visiting professor, Paris, France, since 2010), CNAM (Paris, France), Grenoble Ecole de Management (Grenoble, France), Turku School of Economics (visiting professor, Turku, Finland, 2011-2012), University of Twente (visiting academic, Enschede, the Netherlands, 2011-2012) and the University of Stellenbosch (visiting lecturer, Cape Town, South Africa, 2000). Prior to working at Manchester Business School, he was working at the International University Bad Honnef- Bonn (professor, Bad Honnef, Germany, 2004-2007 and 2009-2014) and Cologne Business School (professor and Head of School, Cologne, Germany, 2007-2008).
He is author of numerous publications in academic and practitioner-oriented journals. His research contributions fall into the three areas of a) comparative business and management, b) comparative political economy, and c) quantitative analyses of (cross-country) company survey data. Recent research is geared at innovation systems, company responses to the global financial crisis, organizational resilience and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
Dr Zagelmeyer has worked as researcher at the Institut der Deutschen Wirtschaft (IW) and at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, both located in Cologne, Germany. He also worked as an external consultant for the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Dublin, Ireland), the European Commission (Brussels, Belgium) and the International Labour Organization (Geneva, Switzerland). In addition, he has worked as trainer for several multinational enterprises and is co-founder of a training, research and consulting company based in Cologne, Germany (IHRMI).
Dr Zagelmeyer has studied ‘Economics and Social Sciences’ (equivalent to MSc in Economics) at the University of Cologne (Germany) and ‘Industrial Relations & Personnel Management’ (MSc Econ) at the London School of Economics (United Kingdom). He received his Ph.D. (Dr. rer-pol.) in economics from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany.
