Biography
I obtained my university qualifications from RWTH Aachen University in Germany, where I worked as researcher, lecturer, and in clinical settings for a total of 14 years, finally as deputy head of the outpatient language clinic at the Department of Neurology and research project leader. After graduation in 2001, I gained clinical experience as neurolinguist at a neurological rehabilitation centre in Hagen and at the Neuropsychological Therapy Ward at the RWTH Aachen in 2002-2003, where I achieved my PhD on a German stipend in 2007. In 2006, I took up a research position at the Neurocentre of the University of Freiburg, and obtained my Postdoctoral Lecture Qualification in 2012 having returned to RWTH Aachen. In between, I was visiting scientist at universities in Urbana-Champaign, Nijmegen, Sydney, and Bergen. In 2014, I started in a half time post as Professor of Neuropsychology and Neurolinguistics at the SRH University of Applied Science with teaching responsibilities for Bsc SLT in Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Duesseldorf, and Bonn.
I became a full time Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester in January 2015. My research focuses on new tools and methods for diagnostics and intervention in language disorders, bringing together methods and knowledge from neuroscience, neuro-/psycho-/patholinguistics including computational modeling, and speech therapy/clinical linguistics.
