Dr. Steve Castleberry, a professor in the University of Minnesota Duluth's Marketing Department, was appointed the UMD's Faculty Athletic Representative in July 2014.

Castleberry joined the Labovitz School of Business and Economics faculty in 1992 as a Professor of Marketing and Business Ethics, and among the classes he currently teaches is Sports Marketing, which he created. Since Fall of 2012 he has worked closely with Bulldog athletics, providing support for an extensive sports marketing internship program and also lending his expertise and class participation in the areas of sponsorships, event management and fan experiences.

Prior to his arrival at UMD, he held positions at Northern Illinois University (UARCO Professor of Sales and Marketing endowed chair) and the University of Georgia. He also teaches as a visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium and has taught at the Carlson School of Management on the Twin Cities campus.

Castleberry has published 56 refereed journal articles in national and international publications including Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Business Ethics, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, Journal of Business to Business Marketing, Journal of Marketing Management, and others. He is the co-author of the best-selling textbook (in English, Spanish and Chinese editions) entitled Selling: Building Partnerships, now in its tenth edition. He also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Business Research (he was marketing editor of this publication) and the Journal of Selling. Castleberry has also done consulting work for international as well as regional businesses and appeared in eight segments of a PBS special on personal selling called, The Sales Connection. His current areas of research include informal organization of sales teams, sales training, salesperson listening, and business ethics.

Among the honors that have been bestowed on Castleberry are the University of Minnesota Horace T. Morse Distinguished Teaching Award, UMD Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, Hormel Meritorious Teaching Award, Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year Award, Ideal Industries Excellence in Teaching Award, Merrell Dow Outstanding Teacher of the Year, NCR Award for Outstanding Teaching in the Undergraduate Program, UMD Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award and the LSBE Faculty Service Award.

He and his wife, Susie, have eight children and reside in Poplar, Wis., where he also serves as a volunteer firefighter.
