Research & Teaching Interests

Professor Kursh''s present research focuses on FinTech, including Blockchain; software engineering and the software industry; financing of innovation in enterprises; OTT in telecommunications; and intellectual property, including licensing and valuation.

Industry & Academic Experience

Dr. Kursh has extensive experience in the computer software industry, including engineering, licensing, marketing, and management; the Internet, including cloud-based services; the telecommunications industry; intellectual property; and finance practice, including financial models used by private equity firms, insurance, and financial management of technology-based ventures; and general business management. 
 
His experience includes founding, funding, and exiting technology companies, including one that was purchased by a division of McGraw-Hill. Another of his ventures was acquired by one of the world’s largest executive education companies.

Dr. Kursh is the author of numerous articles, cases used in education, and a book published by Financial Times Prentice-Hall. He serves as an editor for a division of Pearson Education and as a reviewer for academic publications in business, finance, and software engineering. He has obtained grants from federal agencies and private organizations to support his research. 

Dr. Kursh has provided consulting services to numerous companies including financial institutions and insurance companies (Bancorp Services, Bank of America, Citicorp, HSBC, Invesco, John Hancock, Prudential, Wells Fargo and others); technology and telecommunications companies (Actuate, Allscripts, AT&T, Bloomberg Finance, Comcast, HP, IBM, Qwest, Samsung, Verizon, Websense and others); retailers and manufacturers (CDW, Harley Davidson, Home Depot, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Northrop Grumman, Toyota and others); professional services firms including investment management firms, health care providers, law firms and title insurance companies; (Intermountain Health Care, MSCI, Research Affiliates, SAIC and others); not-for-profit organizations and government agencies; and private equity firms. 

Professor Kursh has earned the IEEE Computer Society Software Development Professional Certification (CSDP) and has been recertified on several occasions. He has also earned the CLP designation (Certified Licensing Professional) and has been recertified on several occasions by the Licensing Executives Society. He has served in various administrative positions at DMSB including, most recently, Co-Director of the High Technology MBA and MS in Innovation Programs.
