International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans

Susan Bird is president of The McAteer Group of Companies, with its head office in Markham, Ontario. She is responsible for providing advanced-level administration and consulting services to a variety of clients, particularly multi-employer health and pension trust funds. Bird is the Chair of the International Foundation Canadian Board and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee. She participated in the design and implementation of the Foundations of Trust Management Standards (FTMS®), Advanced Trust Management Standards (ATMS™) and Master of Trust Management Standards (MTMS) programs. Bird also serves as a voting member of the International Foundation’s Board of Directors, and she is a past president of the Toronto Chapter of the International Society of Certified Employee Benefit Specialists (ISCEBS). Bird participated in the Canadian Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA) Industry Task Force on Pension Plan Governance. She is the vice chair of the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) technical advisory committee (TAC) for multi-employer pension plans, a member of the Alberta advisory group for multi-employer pension plans and a director of the Multi-Employer Benefit Plan Council of Canada (MEBCO). Bird is a past chair of the World Pension Alliance, which represents pension plans covering over 400 million people and $10 trillion of assets. She holds the CEBS designation earned through the CEBS® program, jointly sponsored by the International Foundation and Dalhousie University, and the American Health Insurance Associate (HIA) and Elder Planning Counsellor (EPC) designations. Bird graduated from York University with a bachelor of arts degree in economics. She is also a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
