Dr. Kandarian is a Professor of Health Sciences at Sargent College as well as Director of the Muscle Biology Laboratory, which focuses on understanding the pathways that mediate skeletal muscle atrophy using cellular and molecular approaches. Her lab’s most recent work is on the role of NF-kappaB pathways in regulating atrophy in disuse and cachectic conditions. Studies are geared towards identifying genes that are necessary or sufficient for the induction and progression of atrophy. She also holds the title of Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology within the School of Medicine.
