Research Summary

Professor Mourato is an environmental economist and an expert in the application of economic valuation techniques to the measurement of environmental change.

Her current research is clustered around four key themes: (i) valuing natural wealth and creating markets for ecosystem services; (ii) perceptions and preferences for low-carbon energy technologies; (iii) environmental valuation: methods and policy applications; and (iv) life satisfaction and the environment.

Her numerous articles have been published in journals such as ''Journal of Environmental Economics and Management'', ''Environmental & Resource Economics'', ''Urban Studies'', ''Oxford Economic Papers'', ''Environment & Planning A'', ''Landscape & Urban Planning'', and ''Energy Policy''. She is co-author of three books, including the recently published volume for the OECD ''Cost Benefit Analysis and the Environment: Recent Developments'' and the Edward Elgar manual ''Economic Valuation with Stated Preference Techniques'', now in paperback.

She has worked on more than 45 research projects and consultancies for research councils, government, industry, charities and international organizations.
