Taiyuan Wang

Professor Taiyuan (Terry) Wang is teaches entrepreneurship at IE Business School. Before joining IE, he studied at the Richard Ivey School of Business in Canada, where he earned his PhD in strategy and entrepreneurship.

Before pursuing his PhD, Terry worked for multinational corporations and governmental organizations in China, where he gained extensive industrial experience. He sees every transition in his career as “professionally and culturally fundamental.”

As a researcher, Terry’s work looks at how firms can be entrepreneurial in the process of developing new markets, products and services. To approach this topic, he explores the relationship between entrepreneurship, strategic management and human resource management.

In a recent study, he found that in order to be entrepreneurial, firms need to make the pursuit of new opportunities and rapid growth a top strategic priority. Then, they need to develop specific practices and processes that can facilitate innovative, proactive, risk-taking, and autonomous behaviors in the workplace.

He also found that a firm’s compensation policy plays an important role in influencing employees’ participation in the firm’s entrepreneurial strategies. Terry’s research appears in the best paper proceedings of the Academy of Management.

Terry is also a passionate instructor in the classroom. In his own words, “teaching cannot be effective without passion, vision and good communication.”
