Thierry Viale

Thierry VIALE is an Associate Professor in Management who followed a multidisciplinary track combining Organisation and Management (PhD HEC-Paris, 2010), Communication and Information (MRes Sorbonne Nouvelle, 1995) and Sociology (MRes EHESS, 1996).

His academic journey led him to work ten years in international context. After a Post-doc at Laval University (Quebec) he joined the University of Liverpool (UK) and the University of Bristol (UK).

Drawing on social theories and qualitative approaches, he explores how individuals experience, appropriate and translate organisational changes. Thierry is particularly interested in the analysis of historical or biographical aspects that individuals engage – consciously or not – into processes of change. This work has resulted in various publications for journals like Organisation Studies, Research in Organizational Behavior, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal or Current Sociology.

Prior to being an academic Thierry worked ten years in the marketing/communication industry where he held commercial and managerial positions. This was a fantastic opportunity to witness how the rise of digital communication impacted the design of agencies, process of work and generated tensions in the status order. Most of that experience fed his research.
