Nanyang Technological University Centre for Professional and Continuing Education

Thomas Helmer received his Diploma (M.Sc. degree) in Engineering Sciences from Technische Universität München, Munich, Germany, in 2007 with high distinction. He began his doctoral research in March 2008 within a collaborative effort between Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, and BMW Group in Munich. His doctoral work, under supervision of Prof. Dr. Volker Schindler, focused on evaluation of active safety in traffic. Thomas Helmer received his Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D. degree) from Technische Universität Berlin in 2014. During his doctoral study, he conducted research as an official visitor to the National Crash Analysis Centre of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., sponsored by a scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The findings of the thesis have been published in internationally well-recognized journals and conferences. Thomas Helmer received the Outstanding Paper Award of the 17th ITS World Congress in 2010. He is inventor on several patent applications.
