Thomas M Mertens is a Senior Research Advisor in Economic Research at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco where he joined in 2015. Thomas teaches at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and at Stanford GSB.
Prior to joining the Federal Reserve, Thomas was on the faculty at NYU Stern and, during a one-year visit, the Wharton School.
Thomas’ research primarily focuses on the pricing of risk and its impact on the macroeconomy. He has published numerous articles in academic journals and contributed in book chapters to the policy discussion during the Great Recession.
Thomas received a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Harvard University and an undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Bonn.
