Dr. Timo Santalainen, Founder and President of STRATNET has developed and applied the STRATNET “strategy development processes” by bringing to clients the best of its intellectual capital network.
Dr. Santalainen’s professional career has been a combination of academia, business and consulting (ABC). Currently he is President of STRATNET, a Geneva-based network of strategy advisors, and Adjunct Professor of Strategy and International Management at Aalto Universty School of Economics of Economics and Lappeenranta Technical University.
His previous full-time positions have been Director of Strategic Development atMANNET (Geneva), Professor at Thunderbird Graduate School of Global Management (Glendale, AZ, USA and Geneva), Director for Development at S.A.M.I. (Finland), Executive Vice President (Retail Banking, Management and Human Resources) and Member of the Managing Board of Directors at Skopbank Group (Finland), and Personnel and Training Manager in SOK Conglomerate Finland. He has also served as a Visiting Professor of Management at Mississippi State University (Starkville, MS, USA), and a Visiting Associate Professor of Management at Texas Tech University(Lubbock, TX, USA).
Currently he is an Adjunct Professor of International Management and Strategy at Aalto University School of Business, at Lappeenranta Technical University and at Finnish National Defence University. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor of Strategic Management at Finnish National Defence University.He has been an Adjunct Faculty Member at the European Institute of Purchasing Management (France), at the Management Centre Europe (Belgium). He was the Second Flow International Executive-in-Residence at Wake Forest University (Winston-Saalem, NC, USA).
Dr. Santalainen’s fields of special interest are Strategic Management, International Management, and Organization Tranformation. He has been an Advisor and Senior Consultant for numerous businesses, parastatal and intergovernmental organization and a guest speaker in conferences and seminars throughout the world. He is the author or co-author of ten books. Books on “Results Management”, “Corporate Strategy”, “Strategic Thinking” and “Strategic Thinking & Action” have become best-sellers. He has written articles in international journals such as Business Horizons, The Executive, Global Management 1992, Group & Organizational Studies, Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, Long Range Planning, Organization Studies, and Scandinavian Journal of Management.
He is a Founding Member and Chair, Strategy as Practice Interest Group, of Strategic Management Society, and Member of Academy of Management (USA). Previously he has been a Member of the Editorial Review Board of Human Resource Planning, Member of the Executive Advisory Panel of The Executive. He has also been President of Finnish Volleyball Association, and Executive Vice President, Board Member, President of the Development Commission and President, World Plan Task Force of Federation Internationale de Volleyball(Switzerland).
Dr. Santalainen has been Outstanding Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Professor of the Year at Helsinki School of Economics. He was awarded from the Best European Innovation of Bank Marketing, and shared with Risto Tainio the ‘Douglas McGregor Memorial Award’ from best article of the year in Journal of Applied Behavioral Science. In 2019 he was elected Honorary Member of Strategic Management Society – Finland.
