Biography

Hertie School of Governance

Tobias Bach is a fellow at the Hertie School of Governance. He is Associate Professor of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Oslo (Norway) since 2015. His research covers comparative public administration and executive politics, including the determinants and effects of career patterns of senior officials, political control and bureaucratic autonomy of government agencies, and the pursuit of institutional interests by public organizations. He has published on these topics in journals such as Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Governance, Public Administration, Public Management Review, and Policy Sciences, among others. Together with several colleagues from the Hertie School of Governance, he currently studies the connection between the public reputations of financial regulatory agencies, regulatory reforms and policy outcomes in the project “State, Risk and Society” (STARS). Tobias Bach holds a PhD from the University of Potsdam (2013) and held positions as researcher at the University of Potsdam, Leibniz University Hannover, and as a post-doctoral researcher at the Hertie School of Governance. He has been a guest researcher at the Public Governance Institute at KU Leuven (Belgium) and the Department of Administration and Organization Theory at the University of Bergen (Norway), among others.
